| WARMING seven artists from Belgrade, Serbia 24 oct-23 nov 2008
|
Since springtime 2008 Formverk has planned the cooperation that now is realized in this workshop and exhibition in Sweden. We have invited following seven artists from Belgrade to work under the theme Warming; Nina Todorovic, Zoran Todovic, Anica Vucetic, Isidora Ficovic, Vera Stevanovic, Predrag Terzic and Daniel Loncar.
The invited artists have different backgrounds, and the artistic expressions separates, but the common denominator is the way of immersing in works of thematic character.
The basic idea of Warming is considering the fact that besides the cultural models, the important thing is the agility of each artist, and energy to get involved into the independent search and finding of the cultural streams which are allowing the articulation and presentation out of the home land (abroad). Besides the presentation of artists from Serbia in Sweden, withing the project of Warming, there is another context that speaks about return visit of Swedish artists to Serbia. This way of exhibiting belongs to that privileged way of thinking, in which the international collaboration is best illustrated, and in which it is spoken about national and regional identity, historical continuity, simply the self conscious.
Warming is a key word, it is essential and very comprehensive as a fenomenon, which is clear in both countries, Sweden and Serbia. This way we want to warm up the wish of the other for freeing, accepting the happenings, and for possibility of new encounter between the image and the thought.

Anica Vucetic Cherry
Reflected in eye, one cherry tree grows from winter until summer in 13 seconds. The period of five months is compressed almost in a couple of blinks, while the observer stayed still, looking at the tree. This could be the statement about the time, which is disarming us by fastness of changes, tempting our strenght and ability of adaption. |

Daniel Loncar Choise
Step in or step out? Take it or leave it? Choice. Choice as important thing.
Before every important decision we prepare our self, in a way we warm up for it.

Isidora Ficovic What is contemporary?
The work consists of two parts, the video work and the booklet. The booklet has been realized in line with the video project “What is contemporary?” which consisted of immediate answers by artists, curators whom I met in Istanbul during my residency at Platform Contemporary Art Center. The booklet is a furthering of video project on a written basis where the former contributors were asked to reply the same question via e-mail. |

Vera Stevanovic Collecting Rivers
fluidity – mutability – transparency – opacity – duration – blending – frozen, interrupted, inner courses – in an associative system of symbolic though, the liquid state firstly connotes birth, as amniotic fluid; and then death , as the freezing of movemnet – rivers/cities/gardens – nature's logic and time; the logic and time of civilization – liquid city ... river city ... water city, (cities on the move) – an ecological model of appropriating everyday existence. |
